ACNE VULGARIS
It is a disorder of pilo-sebaceous follicles and occurs in adolescents of both sexes. It usually appears at puberty. It usually stops appearing spontaneously in a majority of the patients by the age of 25 years. The lesions usually situated on the cheeks, forehead, chin, nose and temporal regions, but in severe cases shoulders, back and the central part of the chest may also be involved. Majority of the patients have multiple types of the lesions. Comedones, “black head” and“white head”, papules, papulo-pustules, nodules or large cystic lesions and scars of different sizes and shapes on their face. The superficial pits which may follow comedones or popules tend to fade with time. Irregular deep scars which may follow large nodular or cystic lesions on the face or trunk may leave hypertrophic and sometimes even keloidal scars. The acne is believed to be caused by many factors including excessive secretion of the sebaceous glands, blockage of pilosebaceus duct and bacterial infection.
